The Process

  • Conversation

First off, I’d love to have a conversation with you about your manuscript. We can talk over email or schedule a phone call. I’d like to hear what tone you’re going for or anything that might help provide context (“It’s Harry Potter meets Sherlock Holmes!” or “Humorous with serious notes,” or “Sort of like Nora Roberts but more comedy,” etc.). I’ll also ask you what level of editing you’re looking for. There are several different levels of editing - for instance, I wouldn’t want to do a line edit if this was your first draft!

  • Consultation

After that, I’d ask you to send me your manuscript as a Word document, and I’ll go to work for an hour. That first hour is free. Then I’ll email you a few thoughts I’ve had about your writing. This could be your use of a particular repeated sentence structure, a word or phrase you use too often, as well as things I enjoyed and think are working well. Any edits or notes I make will be in track changes. I’ll also attach your Word document to the email and give you an estimate of how many hours it may take me to finish the whole thing. Once you take a look at my edits, you can give me the green light and I’ll get started on the rest

  • The Task

My hourly rate is $50/hour, with a minimum of $50. If you have several small projects to work on, they can stack.
